Head Hoods

2009 October 21

I’ve been seeing these great images pasted up around the neighborhood for several months now, but never knew the source of them, until I photographed some yesterday and posted them on Facebook, that is.

Then one of my helpful friends chimed in, pointing out that Head Hoods is on Facebook. So I visited him on Facebook and found his url, which for some odd reason Google did not provide when I tried Googling his moniker.

This industrious guy has a great range of fun hoodies adorned with various heads and they’re all quite smashing. Make sure you stop by his site and have a a gander.

Pink Opaque

2009 October 20

One lovely afternoon last month I was strolling through Chelsea, on the way home from work, when I was stopped dead in my tracks by this magnificent paint bomb. Mind you, by the time I stopped my camera was at the ready and I was pacing around this glorious, happy accident, in hopes of immortalizing it.

A Strutting Rooster

2009 September 23

I stumbled across this incredible street art piece last week. Someone meticulously created this exquisite piece out of sheet moss and then stapled it up onto the board near the sidewalk. I’d love to know who did this and if they’ve done anything else. Certainly I’ll be keeping my eyes peeled.

Some Some Some I Some I Murder, Some I Some I Let Go

2009 September 19

Here is a set of images of street art that I found on an amazing abandoned building on Bowery. It’s a puzzle to me that the building has not been in use for quite some time, but now it’s serving the purpose of a street art gallery, which is fine by me.

Depth of palette is very important to me in my work. I want you to feel like you could chip a tooth, break a nail  or poke out your eye when you look at one of my images. If it doesn’t evoke that feeling, then I feel I’m not quite doing my job right.

The names for two of these images come from “Candyman”, by Siouxsie & the Banshees and the third image gets its title from Paper Planes”,  by M.I.A.

“Through Shoe-black Smile He’ll Tell A Tale”

2009 September 19

The title comes from one of my favourite Siouxsie & the Banshees songs, “Scarecrow,” from Peepshow. I’ll post the lyric here, as this is a prime example of Siouxsie at the height of her powers.

Scarecrow

(Siouxsie & the Banshees, 1988.)

He trembles in the bitter wind
Until it’s time for us to speak
Whilst others here are sleeping sound
I’ll slip away by floorboard creak

Upon the hill he’ll hear my secrets
Shock the colours to bleach inside
Whilst others there are sleeping sound
Just we two will confide

Listen to his body moan
Make a wish and send us home
To spin the gold and silver stitches
We can turn his rags to riches

With frosty Jack on fingernail
Thro’ shoe black smile he’ll tell-a-tale
Come whisper thro’ your lips of straw
A moment torn forever more

Listen to his body groan
Make a wish and send us home
To spin the gold and silver stitches
We can turn his rags to riches

My so-called friends say you’re not alive
I’ll bake their bones for telling lies
Then pull the pastry from the pie
And pour the gravy in their eye

Listen to his body moan
Make a wish and send us home
To spin the gold and silver stitches
We can turn his rags to riches

I love this Diane Arbus paster that I found near Chinatown!

Mr. Brainwash’s Spock Monroe

I wonder what Mr. Brainwash would actually call this. Anyway, I spotted this gem outside a restaurant in the Lower East Side and naturally stopped to photograph it.
